SD Samuels Group
Our Core Values are the bricks that form the foundation of the group, how we act both internally amongst ourselves and externally with customers and suppliers. They represent the regular behaviours of our best people, those who exemplify the culture of our company and what makes us special.
As a leadership team we have debated what are core values are and have agreed that the 5 following values best describe who we are, are the reason we are where we are today and will continue to help us build the business for the future.
1. Act with Integrity
This can be described as being reliable, trustworthy, respectful, honest, loyal, fair & reasonable.
Doing the right thing, in all circumstances even if no one is watching you.
2. Put the Company First
This can be described as putting the company and your work colleagues above your own needs.
Customers will never love a company until the employees love it first.
3. Do what we say
A person who does what they say they will do is a person who honours their commitments and keeps their promises.
Be on time, finish what we start, take personal responsibility
We are valued for what we do not what we will say we will do
4. Willingness to Learn
Willingness to learn is defined as a desire, wish or readiness to acquire new knowledge and develop. It means that a person does not want to stand in one place, wishes to be more qualified and keep up with the modern trends and tendencies
“The capacity to learn is a gift; The ability to learn is a skill; The willingness to learn is a choice.”
5. Uncompromising Safety
A safe working environment is at the heart of everything we do. Our uncompromising approach to the safety of every employee, client, and supplier is a cornerstone of our culture.
To become the number 1 supplier of building envelope systems in the UK and an employer of choice within the construction sector, exceeding expectations of our clients and staff.
We want all of our staff to be as proud of working for RetroFit as RetroFit is of them. We will invest in, and support them, in all we do as we continue to deliver excellence to all our clients.

As an industry veteran, Fred Mills started from the bottom and climbed his way to the top. From working on the tools for American owned H.H. Robertson at the age of 21 to positions such as Contracts Manager and General Manager, Fred also obtained diplomas in Man Management and Psychology before eventually getting into his real passion of Quantity Surveying.
Fred eventually started his own business ‘Comet Roofing Ltd’ and then sold it in 1990 when he thought his cladding industry days were over. However, later that year, Fred’s son Wayne suffered a serious injury and became paralysed and wheelchair-bound. After a lengthy recovery and legal battle, both Wayne and Fred bought into S.D. Samuels and later became the major shareholders.
A proud family man, Fred enjoys watching his grandsons play football for their local teams as well as cheering on his four racehorses, one of whom, Ballyoptic, is a well-known winner.
With over 35 years’ experience in the construction sector, Mark initially worked on the tools in property and development, before climbing the ladder to become Operations Director of RetroFit UK Ltd.
A firm believer that happy and engaged employees/site personnel are the key to the success of all projects, Mark’s long career in construction has also seen him obtain diplomas in Management Studies, and he remains an active member of Chartered Institute of Building and Chartered Managers Institute.
Previously responsible for the successful delivery of construction projects in the high-end residential refurbishment and commercial fit-out sectors for many years, Mark brings a wealth of knowledge from H&S planning, to subcontractor selection and management, value reporting, and much more.
In his spare time, he likes to do as little as possible, but being a grandfather, who supports Tottenham FC and someone who also enjoys watching Formula 1, this isn’t always the case… So, when he wants to escape, you can usually find him fishing beside a river.
